Trial mode not working
« on: March 14, 2016, 03:16:51 pm »
Hi

I have installed GSX 1.9.5 in FSX:Accelleration. I wanted to make sure it works OK on my system, and the only Trail available airports I have are the default LIML and EDDM.

However, there is no trace of GSX even at these airports. I tried Ctrl-F12 and nothing appears. The Addon Manager shows GSX is in trial mode, so something must have happened correctly.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

I just want to make sure this is not something that persists when I buy the full version.

Of course it's a problem, what would be the point of a "Trial", if you couldn't TRY the product at the Trial airports. And besides, why you installed GSX 1.9.5, when the current and the only version available on our site, it's 1.9.12 ?

Good point. You are of course right. It's my mistake. The PDF manual says 1.9.5. The installer itself is indeed version 1.9.12

So, it's working now, with the latest installer ? If not, please check if you have BOTH the Addon Manager and the Couatl+GSX menus under the FSX "Addons" menu.

No it is not working. It was ver 1.9.12 from the beginning.

However, only the addon manager is appearing in the FSX addon menu. No trace of Couatl at all.

This thread indicates all the known solutions for missing menu items under the "Addons" menu:

Tried everything. Still not working.

However, when I tried to install vcredist_IA64.exe I got the message "This installation package is not supported by this processor type"

Could this be symptomatic of a deeper problem?

That's because you are not installing the correct file. You are supposed to install the x86 version, because these (FSX, P3D and every 3rd party addon module) are all 32 bit apps, so they require the x86 runtime, even if your OS is 64 bit.

Ah, I see.

The links provide a number of files to install. Which are the ones I need?

If you mean the "links", you need all of them. Every link comes with a set of different files to download. You only need the x86 versions. Pay attention that, they are all named vcredist_x86.exe, but they ARE different!

So, when you download the files, they'll appear as copies, with names like vcredist_x86(1).exe, vcredist_x86(2).exe. This is normal, and you will have to download them all.

Note that, the VC++ 2005 runtimes are needed by FSX itself and Simconnect. Not by our software. But of course, since our software *calls* Simconnect, if Simconnect doesn't work (because of a problem with VC++ 2005 libraries), our software won't work too.

However, we have a separate dependency, from the MS VC++ 2013 runtimes instead. Of course, they are automatically installed by our installer but, if reinstalling the VC++ 2005 runtimes doesn't work, you might try with the 2013 runtimes too:
