GSX Issue - NOT SOLVED
« on: August 24, 2015, 10:46:32 am »
As I, apparently, don't have the same issue with GSX as others here is my problem...

If I install GSX (latest version) and then start FSX all is well, GSX works.
If I then close FSX, alter the scenery library with Scenery Config Editor, which I do regularly to help control VAS usage, I get the GSX menu but clicking any of the options fails to bring up GSX windows. There is also no cache rebuild which I used to have after changing my scenery options. FSDT sceneries work without a problem now since the couatl update (KORD, KLAX, KJFK).

The only way to get GSX to work again is to reinstall it.

So... do I need to manually clear the cache to force a rebuild (if so what files need deleting?) or is this an issue that requires an update of GSX.

The couatl log just shows a disconnect from FSX ...

couatl v3.0 (build 3154)
panic log started on Sat Aug 08 13:55:37 2015

problem raised by engine or unspecified addon
Bglmanx disconnected prematurely
RuntimeError: run() must be run from the main tasklet.
Connection with FSX Steam Edition lost (has it crashed?)
disconnected from SimConnect.

Thanks for your help
Dave

So... do I need to manually clear the cache to force a rebuild (if so what files need deleting?) or is this an issue that requires an update of GSX.

To force a cache regeneration, remove the following folders:

%PROGRAMDATA%\Virtuali\Couatl
%PROGRAMDATA%\Microsoft\FSX

That's one is for August 8th, so it seems you didn't had that specific error afterwards.

I'll try manually deleting the cache directories when I get back. It seems logical that changing the scenery as often as I do could cause an issue. Could you possible add an option to settings to delete the cache on every start (disabled by default) for the next update?

Am I correct that the log / err file is under my <user>\AppData\Roaming\Virtuali directory? If so that's odd as I did several flights yesterday with no GSX.

Thanks
Dave

Clearing the cache hasn't resolved the issue.
No error log has been generated.

I can teamspeak if required.

Thanks
Dave

I can teamspeak if required.

Teamviewer, but before doing that, try to exclude the whole sim folder from antivirus scanning. If that doesn't change anything, PM me with details to setup a Teamviewer connection.

The issue appears to be resolved. I updated Kaspersky last week which removed my exclusion for the FSX folder. I have now tested ...

Fresh install of GSX
Load FSX (without touching scenery library) GSX works
Closed FSX and restarted (again no change in scenery library). GSX works
Closed FSX, added a scenery area and restarted FSX
GSX works at original airport
Closed FSX and restarted at the aiport I added to the scenery library above. GSX Works

Many thanks for your help
Dave

So adding another scenery area and shutting down the PC overnight has broken GSX again. Menus there, antivirus exclusions all there. GSX screens.. nope
