Version 1.1 takes me some 5 more FPS!
« on: November 07, 2007, 09:44:46 pm »
Hi

First I installed Version 1.0 = everything OK,  on the ground about 20 FPS.

Then I installed Version 1.1.= BAD, on the groung about 15 FPS!!

Why did you do this: Higher resolution ground Textures ( from 1.36 m/pixel to 68 cm/pixel )

My specs: Windows Vista64, Intel 6700, 2 GB memory; my plane:Level-D767.

Because we didn't find a noticeable hit on fps, on a good video card with enough video memory, something that one has to have anyway, to use FSX.

If you put down the slider that sets Maximum texture size one notch, it would have exactly the same effect than using Zurich 1.0: it will use 512x512 textures instead of 1024x1024 textures.

This way, users with enough video memory can enjoy better resolution, and user with less video memory, can simply use the texture size slider, and have exactly the same result than Zurich 1.0, without having to release two separate versions of the scenery.

I have two ASUS 8800 GTS with 640 MB memory each!

I think that is enough!

I will try the setting suggested, thanks.

Thanks a lot; I didnt know about this changing from 1024 to 512 pixels.

Now I have about 20 FPS on the ground; thats OK.

WOW! What a machine!!! 2 plus 640MB is equal to 1280MB in video cards!

I use FS2004 and I have just one geforce 7800GT with 256MB DDR3. I have 25 to 40 frames per second with almost all sliders maximum and 50 or 60 AI aircrafts on the ground. I use high resolution textures as well. My FS2004 has also 60 gigabites of material with compressed folder (aircrafts, utilities, sceneries, and so on). I have an Athlon 64 4000 XP and 2048 DDR 400 of ram memory .

Conclusion: if your processor is so good as your video cards, then it means that FSX needs a very high end machine. :D

You are right! FS X is very, very processor-hungry!
But the graphics are great (planes, water, scenery).
