Author Topic: Every time I install a new scenery I MUST delete all DAT Files FOR GSX to work  (Read 10563 times)

 This started happening about 3 weeks ago. Its the most annoying thing. If I install a new scenery it wont make a difference if it uses COUATL or not, GSX will not work. COUATL is running, I have all my buildings and airports that have FSDT / Flight beam but GSX will not work.

Ive installed several airports.

For example I installed JFK V2 two day ago. I then opened P3D 2.5 and I then saw the green notification telling me GSX was building the DAT and it loaded up to 100%. I tried selecting Cntrl F12 and the GSX menu did not come up. I had to close the sim than go to Programdata and delete all the scenery index files and then load up the sim again and have it build the scenery indexes than have GSX read that info and then tried CNTRL F12 again and it works

Then later that day I installed Latin VFR MDSD. I then opened Prepared again no other changed have been made. GSX shows its reading the scenery indexes. Couatl is running because I can see the Add on Menu as well as the task manager and when I do the Cntrl f12, again no menu. I try selecting a GSX menu to change aircraft settings or gate settings. The window will not come up.

So I do the process again. Open Program Data, delete the scenery indexes .DAT files and reload the sim, After doing that process then it works again.

This morning I installed Flight Beam KDEN, and again I have to do the same process.

In the past all I did was install a scenery wait for GSX to read the DAT files and then I was on my way with no issues.

I tried installing the COUATL Beta 3 after researching this forum a while. That did not help, Restarting COAUTL in the sim wont do anything it wont even restart, I tried manually ending the task for COAUTL then browsing to the FSDREAMTEAM folder in my main P3D directory and even tho it shows running in the sim it wont actually show the add on menu in the sim.

The most likely explanation for this problem, is there might be a corrupted scenery somewhere in your system, so Couatl cannot complete its cache regeneration. This will result in exactly the same situation as you are reporting: all FSDT / Flightbeam sceneries will show, but GSX won't work.

You can diagnose this by enabling Logging in the "Troubleshooting" section of the GSX - Settings menu and try again a complete cache regeneration. The Couatl.LOG file that will be generated in the %APPDATA%\Virtuali folder should give you some hints on why the cache regeneration hasn't been completed.

Another issue we found is that, if you have the antivirus enabled (we found Windows Defender has this issue, not sure about other antivirus), cache regeneration will take MUCH longer so, it's best if you exclude the whole FSX folder from scanning in the antivirus exclusions.

It just did it again I tried adding to my scenery Library Dzwk KLGA while parked at KDEN. COUALT Successfully restarted but now GSX will not respond to my commands

First problem, you are not using the current version of the program. Try to reinstall the Stand-Alone Addon Manager PUBLIC BETA again, or the latest GSX Public Beta full installer here:

This indicates the cache was regenerated, because it wasn't valid the last time. This might be normal or not, but it's not clear from your log file, if the cache regeneration ended successfully.

Have you posted the complete log file ?

Or, maybe, you haven't waited enough for the cache to be regenerated, exited from the sim and posted the log ?

If you don't allow the cache regeneration to complete, the regeneration will start from scratch again on the next start and if you don't allow it to complete it, it will restart over and over on the next sim restart, and GSX won't work until the cache is ready.

So, be sure you let the process complete, wither successfully or with an error. If there's an error, you'll see it in the log file too.

Ill redownload the file again and install it,

That was the whole Log file, I just enabled JFK v2 to the library because of performance issues, (landing at KEWR before so had JFK unselected to save performance) a minute ago while P3D was off. When I started the sim I waited for the cache to generate, it went all the way up to 67% before then green message bar went away.

In the past it always loads up to about 70% before it disappears. At the moment I have been waiting 4 minutes since the green bar went away and when I command the GSX menu to appear I am not getting any response.

Update,

 If I restart P3D and change NOTHING then COAUTL not in Menu,

I know its because COAUTL did not close when I ended P3D. If I END TASK COAUTL and restart P3D than it works again.

I know its because COAUTL did not close when I ended P3D. If I END TASK COAUTL and restart P3D than it works again.

If the sim cannot close Couatl automatically ( it's not Couatl.exe that must try to close itself, it's the SIM that has the task of closing an executable it started ), it's usually caused by another addon that has caused the communication pipe from Simconnect to be broken, so FSX cannot send the "close" command to Couatl.

Since we found this was caused by other addons, we added an *additional* safety measure in the Addon Manager, that will try to force-close Couatl.exe, but apparently this is not working on your system for some reason.

Try this:

- Enable logging in the "Troubleshooting" page of the "GSX - Settings" menu.

- Go to any airport then exit. Then, post your Couatl.LOG file, to be found in the %APPDATA%\Virtuali folder


This, to try to understand why the sim (and the Addon Manager) cannot close Couatl.exe. But in your reply you also said:

The cache will not finish regenerating when I open it the first time after adding a scenery or activating a scenery in the scenery library. It shows that its rebuilding it up to around 70% sometimes less. The message disappears when it reaches that percentage. So I close P3D then I go to any airport and I notice COAUTL is not in the addon on menu. But I know from monitoring the task manager that COAUTL never closed automatically after P3D was exited the first time.

At that point I can end the COAUTL task and then navigate to
P3D/FSDREAMTEAM and start COAUTL and after that COAUTL will appear in the addon menu and it give me the Airport Cache regeneration complete then it works fine. So I found that I do not need to delete the scenery cache files, but COAUTL is not finishing the building scenery cache and it will hang until I manually end the task and restart it after restarting P3D

It seems I have fixed the problem by uninstalling all my FSdreamteam folders and deleting all the FSDT/Flightbeam scenery as well as the Appdata Virtuali folder. Now I add a scenery select restart COAUTL in the menu and the regeneration gets completed successfully

The cache will not finish regenerating when I open it the first time after adding a scenery or activating a scenery in the scenery library. It shows that its rebuilding it up to around 70% sometimes less. The message disappears when it reaches that percentage. So I close P3D then I go to any airport and I notice COAUTL is not in the addon on menu. But I know from monitoring the task manager that COAUTL never closed automatically after P3D was exited the first time.

That was your mistake...

The cache regeneration message has a *timeout*, it won't stay on screen until it reaches 100%, it will always disappear after a fixed amount of time. For the obvious reason that, if the cache regeneration takes a long time, the message bar won't be available to OTHER addon so Couatl (it's Couatl, not Coautl...), being the well civilized program that it is, won't steal away the message bar from other addons that might need it.

But that doesn't mean the cache regeneration is not progressing in the background. Of course, when it eventually reached 100%, you would have seen a message about the cache regeneration being completed.

But since you didn't wanted to wait, and close the sim, you aborted the process, so a new one would restart, again and again.

As discussed other times in the forum, an antivirus might slow down the cache regeneration A LOT, like going from some *seconds* to some *minutes* so, if you exclude the whole simulator folder (and any other folders you keep your sceneries into, if they are not in the sim folder), it will speed up the cache regeneration a lot.

And yes, the process it's faster (but not as fast as if you exclude the folders from the antivirus) if you recreate the cache from *scratch*, which explains why, after you removed the C:\ProgramData\Virtuali folder, it completed faster, since it started from scratch.

Basically, everything always worked correctly, and you only had to wait. But if you excluded the whole sim folder from the antivirus, waiting won't be an issue, because it shouldn't take long to regenerate a cache, even with lots of files, not more than 20-30 seconds, usually less.

I see what your saying but there where instances where I waited 20 minutes for the GSX menu to work. I don't have an antivirus but I did exclude it from Windows Defender. And that never worked either. Perhaps after a while I did not wait 20 minutes everytime but o remeber how it worked in the past after I added a scenery and this was nothing like it.

Any how no harm done. I appreciate the help but we got it fixed with our combined efforts.

How long exactly should it take to regenerate the cache after a scenery instal? I thought this problem was fixed after removing all my virtuali compatible products and reinstalling but I guess I was wrong.

I added a scenery and after coautl restarted I got the regeneration message. After about 3 minutes it closed but COAUTL has been running and addon manager too but the same issue as before. I cant open the GSX menu, If I go into the taskbar and select any GSX menu's nothing comes up. Settings, aircraft config, you park me control, anything it does not come up.

I did a manual pushback and am now flying the aircraft but its still is not brining up the GSX menu's all the other menus work. ASN, Addon Manager, the FSDT JFKv2 works no missing buildings or anything.

So, it's normally a few seconds, usually 5-6, but I never saw anything longer than 20-30 seconds. But it might last several *minutes* if the antivirus is checking every file when it gets opened, if you don't exclude the folders were you have all your sceneries from scanning.

Why you report this as if it was a problem ? As I've said, it's entirely NORMAL that GSX won't work, if the cache is not ready. The issue is NOT that GSX is not working, because is not supposed to work when the cache is not ready.

The issue is that it's not normal it's taking so long to regenerate UNLESS you haven't excluded ALL the folders that contains sceneries used in your Scenery Library from the antivirus real time scan.

ISSUE
 GSX will not respond to Cntrl F12
 All coautl menus will not respond. <-------------------- I thought maybe I am messing with it so i let it sit on the tarmac unbothered for 2 hours.
 Come back try to select GSX menu (NOTHING)
 Addon manager still is available and can be used
 JFKv2 is working fine all buildings and animations work fine

Additionally after updating to the GSX version you posted earlier in the thread, I am experiencing GSX pushing back but it actually does a 180 degree before even starting the push back and it actually PUSHES the aircraft. The Tow truck is acting irrationally

NOW you are saying something different. Which is also not what you have in all the logs you sent so far so, either you have a DIFFERENT issue now, or you never described correctly.

According to all your previous logs and reports, the cache regeneration DID NOT always complete. Which is why, I asked if GSX worked WHEN the cache regeneration completed. Al the logs you sent clearly indicated the cache regeneration never completed, which is why I asked if you maybe closed FSX to send the log *before* it had the chance to regenerate the cache.

NOW, instead, you are saying the cache regeneration DOES complete, but GSX doesn't work and no menu *except* the Addon Manager is responding.

While GSX menu not working might be caused by the cache not ready, the menus under the "Addons" menu not responding might be an entirely different issue. Two other users reported it, but both of them said it doesn't happen anymore, with the *CURRENT* Beta.

An previous version of the Beta did that. The one that is currently online now fixes this. If it doesn't fix it for you, as usual, clearly indicate ALL the following:

- The airplane used

- The scenery used

- The gate used

- The direction you chose for the pushback

However, since you are reporting this, I assume that even now, SOMETIMES, GSX is working, otherwise how you could do a Pushback in the first place ?

So, please, clearly indicate what happens when GSX is working, and any difference when it's not. Are you saying that GSX (and the other menus) do not work only the FIRST time after you add a new scenery even if the cache regeneration seems to have completed ?
