Terminal LOD
« on: March 20, 2015, 09:16:24 pm »
Hello

Is it normal that the terminal's inside starts appearing in 3D only from this distance?

The 3D version of the internal will appear only when getting close, for obvious performance reasons, but it's replaced by a flat texture of the same internal from a distance so, it's not that you don't see anything in the distance.

I meant that the distance from the terminal at which the texture is replaced by 3D is, in my opinion, too small. I don't see how increasing it would significantly affect performance. The transition just doesn't look good: http://i.imgur.com/zpKAYa0.gif

The distance is just right in our own opinion.

This doesn't have anything to do with the distance. Your screenshot shows the worst possible case, because of the time of the day, since the flat textures and the 3d objects reacts to the sunlight in very different ways, depending on the time of the day. At other times, the transition it's ok.

This won't change a bit, even if we increased the distance a lot, making the LOD fps benefit useless.
