FSX-SE crash
« on: February 03, 2015, 01:58:56 am »
Dear FSDT,

Thanks for GSX its a great add-on for MSFS and i've used it for 3 years now and love it, but i recently have a problem.

i've rebuilt my machine with the FSX steam edition and now have my PMDG 777 in there too.

All my recent flights with the Triple 7 start off fine, i use GSX no problem, then taxi / take off etc, get to cruise and about 30-45 into cruise i get a mega crash to desktop, FSX-SE is just totally gone - no error warning, just nada.

In the Event viewer i've noticed the following:

Faulting application name: couatl.exe, version: 2.0.0.2378, time stamp: 0x54bec650
Faulting module name: couatl.exe, version: 2.0.0.2378, time stamp: 0x54bec650
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0041e000
Faulting process id: 0x15e4
Faulting application start time: 0x01d03ee3088d43ff
Faulting application path: E:\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\fsdreamteam\couatl\couatl.exe
Faulting module path: E:\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\fsdreamteam\couatl\couatl.exe
Report Id: 463bb452-aad6-11e4-827f-10bf487f32bd
Faulting package full name:
Faulting package-relative application ID:

Now, i assume the problem is with couatl, but i'm open to trying anything so i dont get this crash.

I did get the message that couatl needs an update and tried updating and staying in fsx but this didn't work, so i manually updated the couatl installer outside of fsx and all seems good, but still getting that appcrash.

System and details:

FSX-SE  v1.0.0.62608.0
Windows 8.1 64bit on 3770K @ 4.7GHz overclock, 8Gb Ram GTX 670.
PMDG 777 (for steam)
FSUIPC 4.938c
REX/ORBX/FSGRW/EZdok/DX10 etc

any ideas what is causing this

Regards

Roger

The problem doesn't have anything to do with any of our products, surely not Couatl. Couatl, by definition (being an external .EXE) CANNOT crash your FSX. If it crashed, the worse it would happen, is that its own menu would disappear, and you'll lose FSDT sceneries and GSX, but FSX will continue normally.

You are looking at the effect, not the cause. BECAUSE FSX crashes abruptly for other reason, it brought Couatl.exe with it, which is the victim of the FSX crash, due to other reasons.

It's not clear from your message, if FSX crashed.

If FSX crashed, I can only repeat and confirm it CANNOT crash because of Couatl.exe. In fact, it's the opposite, and FSX crashed on its own, and brought Couatl.exe down with it.

The only confirmed issue between FSX:SE and Couatl.exe, is the "Restart Couatl" function is not working under FSX:SE. We are still trying to understand why, but it seems a general issue with FSX:SE, that no executable can be started by it, perhaps due to security issues.

Same setup: FSX:SE + PMDG 777 + GSX

Same error after 9 hours:
Faulting application name: couatl.exe, version: 2.0.0.2378, time stamp: 0x54bec650
Faulting module name: couatl.exe, version: 2.0.0.2378, time stamp: 0x54bec650
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0041e000
Faulting process id: 0x990
Faulting application start time: 0x01d041fb2ec0526d
Faulting application path: D:\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\fsdreamteam\couatl\couatl.exe
Faulting module path: D:\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\fsdreamteam\couatl\couatl.exe

That's frustrating

I had this same problem 2 days ago.
It has nothing to do with GSX.
It was solved by going into my Steam Account and verifying the FSX files cache.

Sorry, I'm not sure what FSX files cache is and what Steam Account has to do with it. Could you please give some more details?
