The problem doesn't have anything to do with GSX or your license. You are getting that message, because the EXE.XML file has a wrong parameter.

This is how the EXE.XML normally looks like:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="windows-1252"?>
<SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0">
<Descr>Launch</Descr>
<Filename>exe.xml</Filename>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<Launch.ManualLoad>False</Launch.ManualLoad>
<Launch.Addon>
  <Name>Couatl</Name>
  <Disabled>False</Disabled>
  <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad>
  <Path>fsdreamteam\couatl\couatl.exe</Path>
</Launch.Addon>

Be sure the highlighted lines are set to False. The EXE.XML is located at:

%APPDATA%\Microsoft\FSX\EXE.XML  ( if you installed FSX Steam edition without having FSX already installed )

OR

%APPDATA%\Microsoft\FSX-SE\EXE.XML  ( if you installed FSX Steam edition alongside FSX )

How did you solve this? It still happens for me in FSX SE

The "Restart Couatl" option doesn't work with Steam for the time being.

Hi
not meaning to intrude but do you guys have an update on this issue (what causes it, are you close to solving it and will it need much time) because to me its really annoying.

We still don't have any idea *why* this is happening, but we hope to be able to work on it and hopefully have it fixed, since we are also porting Couatl.exe to run under the VC++ 2013 runtimes, which are supposed to be more friendly to Steam. This is a much more complex work than porting the Addon Manager, because Couatl does way more and requires lots more additional 3rd party libraries to be updated too (like OpenAL for sound, wxWindows for the user interface, etc.) but we are almost done, so we can start working on the Restart issue.

In any case, the "Restart Couatl" option is not really needed for normal operations, it's just a convenience feature that we added to fix unexpected issues so, it's not as you cannot use the product without that feature.

Thanks for replying well to me the reset gsx feature is used a lot by me especially when I switched to fsx steam having  to configure most again scenery via gsx scenery editor (jetways /pax bus / pushback diction) or when gsx gets stuck on waiting for other services to complete where as in boxed fsx I just could reset gsx and not the whole sim
Thanks

If you had a lot of scenery customizations made in FSX, they would continue to work under Steam, because they are stored in *your* %APPDATA%\Virtuali\GSX folder, not the sim folder, so GSX will always read them from there. Of course, if you reinstalled Windows, you should have *saved* your previous GSX airport customizations, so you didn't had to restart from scratch again.

But yes, the only time I think the "Restart Couatl" option will be used a lot, is when editing a scenery. But this is another thing we should fix instead: NOT having to "Restart Couatl" after having customized a scenery.

That's what I've said, the "Restart Couatl" option IS useful (otherwise we wouldn't add it), but it's not as if GSX always gets stuck, it's not a normal occurrence and it happens very rarely, normally you don't need to Restart Couatl

If you find GSX *always* gets stuck, then please report it in a separate thread, indicating the airport, the airplane, any customization you made, etc. because it's surely not normal to have to rely on the "Restart Couatl" very often, except when editing a scenery.
