GSX keeps regenerating scenery cache at every FSX startup
« on: January 18, 2015, 12:41:32 pm »
Hi,

I know that there are several topics on this, but the answer there is not valid in my case. I have 359GB left on my C: drive where FSX is installed. Is it not enough? I also have another drive with 149GB of free space. There are some BGLs that always fail, and not just for me. On both the topics I found there is problem with Mallorca X Ground. There are also some other, mainly ground scenery files. Is there a solution for this problem? I have trial version of GSX and I intend to buy it if I can resolve the problem.

Regards,

Ádám

The problem doesn't have anything to do with GSX. If you have corrupted files, the cache will be regenerated at each start. You must fix/remove the corrupted files.

If you enable Logging from the "Troubleshooting" section of the "GSX - Settings" menu, the Couatl.LOG file that will be generated inside %APPDATA%\Virtuali folder will indicate exactly which .BGLs are corrupted.

Thank you for your quick reply. Since I searched for the problem on your forums I already enabled logging and it turns out the cache generation fails on BGL files near or above 1GB. It seems memory problem. I have Windows 7 64-bit and I always start my flights with simple planes which consume little memory.

That's possible. Do you have Windows setup to manage virtual memory automatically ?

Yes, it is automatic. I have 8GB RAM, maximum paging file size is 12GB, currently it is 8GB. SysInternals Process Explorer shows FSX using 1.3GB VM when standing at LOWW (where GSX demo is not active) with a Cessna. I am not sure whether 32bit process virtual memory is 3GB or 4GB in Windows 7 64 bit, but even if it is only 3GB it should be able to process 1,5GB BGLs without problem. But it fails.

Now I started on a very default airport so FSX only uses 1GB. Still the same big BGL files failed. Some of them is only 0.9GB. Strange...

No, but we are looking into it.
