Problem with GSX Airport Cache

Hi
Every time I load or delete an airport, or any AFCAD file, in FSX, I have the GSX message : "regenerating airport cache", during more than 5'...
I saw in the forum that it wasn't normal, so I suppose there are some corrupted in my installation.

There's nothing corrupted in your installation, if you mean your GSX installation. The problems seems to be caused by some external add-ons:

This might be or not a problem, depending if you REALLY changed your scenery.cfg or not since the last time you ran FSX. If you haven't changed anything ( you haven't installed a new scenery and you haven't changed the Scenery Library in FSX ), and you keep seeing this message in the log file at every startup, it's possible the problem is caused by another add-on product that is constantly changing the scenery.cfg. We heard of some external ATC utilities that do that, because the create modified AFCADs on the fly.

If another add-on is keep changing the scenery.cfg, you WILL have GSX regenerating its cache but, it SHOULD be a very fast process, unless that external add-on is changing LOTS of files.

These are not serious problems, but are not the cause of the cache regeneration themselves, they only indicate that you have some AFCADs that only "add" to an existing airport, without replacing it. They won't really affect GSX, but if you have GSX not working well at one of those airports, you would have an indication where to look for ( it might be an error by the scenery designer, or it might be made on purpose ), that's why they are labeled as warnings, NOT errors.

That's a bit too much, so it seems the other add-on that is changing your scenery.cfg, is affecting many files.

This is an entirely different warning, which doesn't have any relationship to your issue. It's simply telling you that the GSX airport customization file you made for KSEA will not be used, because you are now using a different AFCAD compared to the one you used when you made that customization.

This is an indication that you should do one of the following:

1) Restore the original AFCAD you were using when you made that customization, so your customization will work again. This can be done by removing the MyTraffic AFCAD.

OR

2) Create a new customization file for KSEA now, with the AFCAD coming from MyTraffic as the active one

OR

3) Change the pathname in the afcad_path line in your %APPDATA%\Virtuali\GSX\ksea-ealgkw.ini file, to match the MyTraffic AFCAD name. This MIGHT work well or not, depending if the MyTraffic BGL has the same parking names as the original one. Impossible to say without trying, but if it works, it will save you from having to redo your customization from scratch.

OR

4) Do nothing, and just use GSX without any customization at KSEA.

The problem being that I use to manage the airports sceneries or landscapes, to facilitate the processor work during the flights, and to prevent files of becoming too large, so I frequently add or delete some airports or scenaries when I arrive or leave an area.
When I change a lot of things, I understand that GSX has to regenerate the cache, the problem is that this process is always very long, 4 to 5', even if the change concerns a very small bgl file !
Concerning the KSEA problem, I will look for the best of your solutions.

Ok, so it wasn't an external product, it was just you editing the Scenery Library.

It's not just GSX that has to regenerate its cache, it's FSX too! You would have had exactly the same problem even if you didn't had GSX. But GSX must first wait for FSX to end regenerating its cache, before it can *start* regenerating its own.

According to your own log, the GSX cache regeneration took exactly 91 seconds so, if it's really 4-5 minutes, then the rest is taken by FSX so, the problem would have been there exactly the same ( minus the 90 seconds taken by GSX ), if there wasn't any GSX to begin with.

And I already replied to you about this message too, see by above reply, it's not a serious error, and it might (or not) be done on purpose by the scenery designer, for example to provide just an enhancement to a default AFCAD.

While this is supported by FSX, GSX requires an AFCAD to be entirely self contained, but since it cannot obviously know if the DeleteAirport records are missing on purpose or are just a bug, it gives you that warning, which won't cause any problems as such, it's just to letting you know that, if you have a problem on an airport, it MIGHT be related to that.

In this case, it seems they were missing because of a bug.
